Battle Arena (Part 4)

Kijum gave the potion a quick sniff and then drank it. It tasted revolting, and he tried not to pull a face as the liquid slid over his tongue.

he did not feel any different, but he trusted Xanatos, and was confident that the potion was working. Kijum growled, "Lead the way."

"Consider me a fool for eating the best-tasting dog treat created by mankind's greed."

The liutenant paused briefly as he passed the door to the storage room, some inner sense perhaps alerting him to impending danger. But hearing nothing, he shrugged and continued down the corridor towards the briefing room.

After Kijum had drank the potion, Xanatos thought back to the first time he had drunk it. "The potion is one of the greatest in mankind!"boomed the instructor. "Imagine being able to walk place to place unoticed! Imagine a girl you like who doesn't notice you! That's the exact effects of the potion!"

Xanatos pulled himself from the past and slid down the hill at a breakneck speed. Stopping at the base of the hill, he pulled out his pouch and grabbed his pouch of arrows for his spear launcher. He took his time, ruffling through them until he found one marked "Firefiende. He smiled, knowing the destruction this would cause.

Aiming it at the nearby forest and not pausing for Kijum, he fired the arrow into the agricultural land. It set alight with a grand blaze. Smiling, he stood still and waited for the assassins to notice.

The fire quickly took hold in the dry straw of the fields and the nearby undergrowth of the forest. An assassin who had been patrolling the grounds called out in alarm.

"Fire! Fire in the eastern fields!" he called, pointing towards the growing flames.

Another man quickly ran inside to alert the others. Unless the fire was controlled quickly, it might soon threaten the mansion. Meanwhile, several of the farmers who tended the fields had also seen the blaze. It wasn't long before the area was full of farmers and assassins, busily organising a bucket line to douse the fire with water from the nearby river.

Both Alter and Julia made their way back to the arena's seating section. Julia and her father were given complimentary seats that had an amazing view of the entire combat area. Alter first extended his hand towards Julia's father.

"Glad to see you here sir!"

Alter shook his hand with a firm grip. Then the three took their seats and watched the next combatant fighting.

OOC: Sorry for the short post. I have a Physics test tomorrow and I really need to get studying. So many distractions!

"Kijum, hurry up!" roared Xanatos as he approched the outter walls, he walked towards the secret passage and tapped seven bricks in a certain order. At once the passage opened and Xanatos dived in, smiling.

Arena

Although only fractions of a second had passed, it somehow seemed to take forever. But suddenly the chief's club connected with the fighter's head. So quick and powerful was the blow, that Pelagius was unable to avoid it. He did however manage to twist slightly to one side. Enough that the club struck a glancing blow rather than a fatal one.

Even so, he slumped to the ground stunned and bleeding from his head wound. The crowd gasped, waiting to see if he would arise and continue the fight. Meanwhile the war chief turned to the rest of his band and raised his fist high. They all responded, fists high, and grunting their admiration of his prowess.

Kijum followed Xanatos through the passage he had opened. He was in such a hurry to do so, that he accidentally ran straight into the lieutenant. he believed this fell under the category of drawing too much attention to himself.

Swearing under his breath, he drew his axe and prepared for battle.

"Consider me a fool for eating the best-tasting dog treat created by mankind's greed."

Alter wondered if Ashal would have been able to arise after such a fatal injury. He looked on, slightly curious. The man was still slouched on the ground, and it looked like he would remain there. Even if he were to get back up, the chances were against him. He would truly be tested to his limits.

Alter knew that he had much more potential then he exhibited. All he needed was for a way to combat his inner evils. For, if he were to eliminate his fear, he would be able to control the impulses that come across him when he uses his bloodlines legendary blade.

These impulses make him a savage, and they destroy who he really is. Normally, people of his bloodline aren't assassins. In fact, only him and his father were. His brother, Leonard, was a restoration mage. Most people from his clan used their abilities to help others, rather then kill. But regardless, many cults saw the potential of having such power. Many also feared it, that is what lead to the demise of such a powerful bloodline.

Alter, was potentially the last one of his kind. He also was the most unique, in that he developed his physical condition rather then his magical. The eyes he had were perfect for the job as well. Imagine, being able to predict your foes movements before they even happened. The power you would gain is immense. He was also adept at magic, as are most of his clan.

The bloodline grants an enormous understanding of three of the arcane arts, Illusion, Conjuration and Restoration. Alter was only adept at these three, the other arts were difficult for him to grasp. He always wanted to work on Destruction, but never got an opportunity.

"This would be an excellent opportunity for me to practice my destruction abilities. I guess settling down isn't all that bad. I guess I'll attend a few training sessions or higher a local mage. I also need to teach Julia some self defense. I can't be with her all the time, and I can;t imagine what would happen if I lost her."

The very idea brought a sensation of grief to him, that showed in his expression as he slightly cringed.

"So, are you two enjoying your evening?" He said with a smile. His golden eyes were now shinning, as they reflected the sunlight. They were slowly regaining their color, but were still dull compared to any earlier time.

The lieutenant jumped in surprise as a very large, armour clad man, bumped straight into him. How could he not have detected his presence? It was as if the man had appeared from nowhere. But he quickly regained his composure.

"Intruder" he yelled at the top of his voice, while Kijum was drawing his axe. Athough whether any others were near enough to hear him was uncertain. He then grabbed a small vial from one of his pockets and gulped down the contents. He immediately felt the effects of increased strength and speed.

He leapt in the air and flipped backwards out of range of Kijum's weapon. With a flick of his wrist, he triggered his miniature crossbow, sending a tiny, poison coated bolt straight towards Kijum's head. It would have to be a lucky shot to find an opening in the warrior's armour, but it was worth a try.


Arena

Pelagius did not move, and moments later the goblins disappeared - unsummoned now that the fight was over. The crowd sighed, disappointed to see such a quick end to what had looked to be a promising fight.

"Ladies and gentlemen" said the announcer, "the fight is over and our contestant has been defeated. Please enjoy the intermission before our next event."

Meanwhile, two stretcher bearers and a healer made their way into the arena to tend to Pealgius.

Arena Stands

Julia seemed to sense Alter's inner conflict, turning a questioning glance to him as an expression of grief crossed his face. But he simply smiled and asked if they were enjoying the evening. Clearly now was not the time or place for deeper discussions.

"Yes, although it is a pity about that last fight. It seems the goblin chief got a lucky hit. Either that or this Pelagius was less skilled than he looked," replied Julia's father. The man's eyes were alight with pleasure at finally being well enough to come and watch the arena fights.

Xanatos smacked himself as Kijum ran into the lieutenant, but before he could stop the man consumed the virus and grinned. The lieutenant then fired a poison dart at Kijum, which was intercepted as Xanatos blocked it with the hilt of his sword without fully drawing it. He then pulled out a vial of acid and threw it at the lieutenant, hoping to burn him.

Cult Headquarters

The lieutenant's eyes widened in surprise as yet another man appeared from nowhere, intercepting the crossbow shot with the hilt of his sword. The man then threw a vial of something in his direction, but the lieutenant executed another rapid move to one side and avoided it. The contents of the vial splashed on the floor, and the acid hissed and bubbled as it started eating a large hole in the carpet.

At the same time, the lieutenant shot off two more bolts - one towards Kijum and the other toward Xanatos.

Kijum breathed a sigh of relief as the first poison bolt was intercepted by Xanatos, but it was a short lived relief. Shortly after, another bolt was speeding towards him. This time he wasn't so lucky, the bolt hit him between his pauldron and cuirass. It was exceedingly painful, and as soon as he felt his muscles tense and relax repeatedly in an uncontrollable manner, he knew that the bolt must have been poisoned.

He did not have much time. This man needed to be defeated and Kijum had to head to a place where he could get help. Ignoring his left arm, which was now in extreme pain, Kijum threw his massive war axe at the Lieutenant, hoping it would hit him.

Even though the virus had made him fast, in the cramped corridor, the lieutenant was not able to completely avoid Kijum's huge axe. He twisted to one side, avoiding a killing blow, but the head of the axe grazed his right arm causing him to drop one of his short blades. The arm would probably hurt like hell later, but for now the effects of the virus dulled any pain.

Despite the slight setback, he grinned wickedly, already seeing the effects of his poison by the way Kijum was holding his left arm. He knew that soon the warrior would be debilitated by pain and would die a slow but excruciating death. Which meant he really had only one opponent worth worrying about now.

Ignoring Kijum, he focussed on Xanatos. With a deft flick of his foot, he spun the dropped blade back into his hand and then moved forwards. The two blades seemed to dance before him, seeming to block any attack while at the same time creating a deadly whirl of sharp steel.

Ooc: So sorry for not posting in ages, I have had alot on my mind

Ic: Xanatos watched Kijum fall in pain and became angry, he rushed forward and dueled for quite some time with the lieutenant, slowly growing weaker. As the lieutenant tried knocking his sword out of his hand, Xanatos grabbed the lieutenants head and yelled "FLAMES OF GORGNAK!". Fire shot from his hands and burned the lieutenant within seconds. He then threw the corpse aside and went to Kijum. "Use your amulet!" Xanatos said "Ill deal with the cult leader!"
